Peridontology, "pink aesthetics"
Peridontology is the brench of dentistry which is dealing with the tooth-bed and its diseases but instead of scientific definition and description let us see the importance of the "applied peridontology " through a few examples.
Nowadays quality dental intervention - dental service - cannot be imagined without the up-to-date knowledge of peridontology. All kinds of dental activity (teeth renovation, restoration, reservation, replacement, implantation, etc.) can be carried-out only in possession of peridontology knowledge. Neither the dentist nor the patient can disregard the diagnosis, prevention and treatment opportunities of the tooth-bed diseases. Similar to any construction work, at the treatment of teeth and lack of teeth, the "foundation work" has a high importance. This foundation work can not be stared from elsewhere than from the recovery of that part of mandible which includes the teeth, the tooth-bed! Diseases concerning the tooth-bed and vicinity often develop stealthily, hidden for several years/decades, sometimes the neglecting of a superficial sign (a red line on gum edge, puffy gum edge, gingivitis) leads to the development of a more serious, deeper problem that might touch the bone-tissue (peridentitis). It is visible now that however the complaints of our patients the most often relates to the deseases of teeth and the disadvantageous state of lack of teeth, they can not be cured without the recovery of the foundation, the tooth-bed or peridontium!
On the basis of above, in our surgeries, we put outstanding importance on to meet the highest demand not only with our renovation - preservative - works and prosthesis but with our peridontological preparation works that thus make possible the long life of our prosthesis and restauration works. Beyond the quality service and the expectable long life-span, the aesthetic effect of prosthesises, the cleanability and functionality depends of the soundness of the parodonthological preparation as well.
In the followings we have listed the most frequent peridontological interventions, providing a short demonstration of them:
Depuration, scale removal: The cleaning of tooth surfaces when the ultrasonic or sonic (high pressure air-water jet) instrument will remove the scale or discoloration. Any kind of intervention (like preparation of fillings or prostheses, implantation, etc.) is possible to be carried-out only in a properly prepared "clean" mouth! This process will be followed by the polishing of the surface of teeth that makes teeth again smooth. With the regular (!) cleaning of the surface of teeth can be provided the perfect oral hygienie and can be prevented several serious deseases (and bigger expenditure)!
Subgingival depuration: Often remain unobserved or, following a non-professional examination, hidden carries and other deposits under the gum (subgingival) that may cause the inflammation of gum and damage of deeper (bone) tissues. These subgingival carries will be removed by special techniques, often by hand instruments and anaesthetization.
Curette, peridontal curetting: This is for the treatment of inflammated, deep epithelium sticking-down (originally tightly sticking and closing layer around the neck of tooth), and a process to remove the deposits, found in the bag, beside the root of tooth (in deep), and the inflammated bag epithelium, which we carry-out painless and in anaesthetization. The generated "wound" will be safety packed and all that will result in clean, inflammation-free sticking-back of gum around the nech-of-tooth. The process can be carried-out in a "closed" (we intrude to the inflammed bag beside the tooth) or an "open" way (with small gum lobule).
Peridontal splinting: Following the passed deseases in tooth-bed (tooth-bed inflammation and bone degradation) the teeth holding structure will lose its support, will become weaker. In such a case the fixation of a few teeth to each other - splinted together - may be a good supplement of the status following the recovery from tooth-bed inflammation.
For all cases we offer these parodontal interventions mentioned above because the result is distinctly visible, manifests clearly and fast and the surface of teeth and prosthesis contribute, in an easy to clear way to the maintenance of oral hygienie and general health as well!
"Pink aesthetics": At the planning of dental treatments and expected results, the request of patients, in general, aim to the location, form and color of teeth ("white aesthetics"). However the tooth-bed that is the edge of gum and part of mucus membrane respectively, around the teeth, dental archs and plates, implantates, cannot be disregarded. Therefore during our planning and treatment we have always endeavour to take maximum care of the edge of gum, and that our ready-made prosthesis provide appropriate aesthetic effect not only on the level of teeth but on that of gums as well.
